Matrix problem

Postby tranny mhan » Wed Mar 03, 2010 11:57 pm

I have done a search of the forums and I have not found the answer to my conundrum. My problem is that I have stripped back my dash to remove the heater matrix assembly as my blower did not work on settings one and two and would only half heartedly work on setting three before popping the fuse..There was also a rogh noise coming from the motor so I am fairly certain that the heater blower motor is kaput.

I have managed to source another complete matrix assembly from a 2000 (w) mk 5 and I intend to fit this to my van.

As I have already stated the dashboard has been removed in order that I can fit this complete unit. My problem is that the pipes that connect the matrix to the engine block have some weird type of connection on them at the engine compartment side of the matrix. I assume that these are some kind of quick release set up to aid cylinder head or engine changes..If this is the case how do I get these to release without destroying the hose ends or the matrix pipe ends..

All advice gratefully received and a photo would be an added bonus as I am stumped with this as of now as I dont want to damage my matrix water pipes.

P.S I did see the optional post about just pulling the heater motor from the matrix housing and I will follow this route if I have no joy with the heater pipes. I have also sourced a new regulator for speeds one and two that I will locate in a better place within the engine bay from that of the original.

As per haynes ( from within the engine compartment disconnect the quick-release couplings and detach the heater hoses .. to do this compress the collar of the plastic insert, and pull off the hose using angled pointed pliers Take care not to lose the seals hope this helps sorry no pics
