Right, I'm back to the fold!

Postby mikmik » Thu Mar 11, 2010 10:06 am

Morning folks!

The need for a big van is upon me again, and I have been looking at Hiaces, but I fear that even the long wheelbase one might not be quite big enough for what I want to do, on rare occassions.

I found my last Transit - MKV smiley LWB 100L a little thirsty and a bit shoddy when it came to electrics and to body rust especially

But there's a couple knocking around here I could pick up for half the price of a hiace.

Have you boys found your vans to be reliable in the main? What I buy HAS to be ultra-reliable

Thanks boys!

Mick

Well lads, she's bought.

Its surprisingly solid - great sills and all that.

I'm delighted

Paid 900 euro for her, taxed, DOE'd etc and the mileage is genuine!

MK5 should plod on all day long with a little care, but the arches and rear doors make them look so bad... At least parts are easy and relatively cheap to buy

If the cambelt hasnt been done it needs to be done ASAP

These mk5s will go forever if you dont mind a bit of rust, and the few faults that do happen occasionally can normally fixed very quickly and cheaply.

Timing belt was done 20k ago. By Eircom, so happy days!

I went back to the wreck of my old one and got the 3 new tyres off of it and will spend tomorrow before work dickying her up, fixing the lack of rear and brake lights and removing some of the shelving and the ladder run from the back.
