Indicators not working

Hi

I have an 03 Transit based camper van.
While I was driving today the direction indicators suddenly stopped working. I tried the hazard warning lights and they were also not working.
When I arrived home I checked the fuse listed in my handbook (fuse 226) - it was OK.
I called the AA at that point as I've been paying for years and never had a problem. The AA man checked all the fuses then gave up and left.
I've spent the afternoon trying to identify those components likely to be the cause of this fault with not a lot of success. Is there a flasher relay somewhere?
I wondered if any of you forum members could suggest an approach I could take to find the cause of this fault. I am familiar with electrics.
