Windscreen Wipers

Postby matthew2riches » Tue Mar 23, 2010 5:21 pm

I had autoglass come and replace my windscreen today, all went well apart from the guy sheared off one of the nuts holding the wiper to the mechanism (drivers side).

I have the splined cone now with no bolt on top. What's the way to fix this? I am guessing a new mechanism?

On another note :D THERE WAS NO RUST AROUND THE PILLARS OR BOTTOM & TOP OF THE WINDSCREEN AT ALL :D

A dab of weld (don't forget to cover the windscreen) or some chemical metal if you cant get access to a welder. Or drill through the wiper and splines and put a nut and bolt through it or one of those metal dowels that are split along its length drill the hole slightly smaller then tap it home (just fixed my ambulance rear door handle that way and it works a treat. Hope this helps!!

Fixed today with a new mechanism. Autoglass did voice their concerns and I said go ahead, what's the worst that could have happened :?:

I drove to the scrap yard and back with the arm just sat on the splined cone... going over the Orwell Bridge it did start to wobble but it didn't come off
