Mk5 bodywork

I knew there was a bit of bodywork needed on my van when I bought it a few months ago, decided today to see what needs doing the main bit is the rear corner under the bumper



First question: If I leave this as it is will it fail it's MOT?
2nd question: How much would a body shop charge to sort it? (obviously only after a rough estimate here)

i'm intending on taking the rear bumper off and replacing with a hope safe-t-bar which I have sitting in my garage waiting along with a towbar

Yes, as the end of that bumper would be considered as sharp

The repair would depend on what sort of a job you agree bang out what's possible, fill and paint about £200

Better off fitting the Safe T bar and a nice new end cap to cover the damage

I figured the end of the bumper was a no no but was just thinking if I fitted the safe-t-bar would the body damage be classed as a sharp edge? Have got the mot coming up in the next few weeks but want to get the bar on asap as it's been getting in the way sitting in my garage.

Wouldn't be able to fit the safe-t-bar and a new end cap as the clips that hold the cap on attach to the body where it's damaged

I was thinking of getting a slide hammer and going at it with that to get it back into rough shape and using filler and sprayng it up myself.

you cant get in behind it to hammer it out ,you could buy the real bottom corner panel and cut the part out and weld in the new

Yeah already checked to see if I can get in behind, which is why I'm thinking a slide hammer would do the trick.

Where could I get the bottom corner panel? Will need to practice my welding first though as it's not very good
