K&N air filter mk5

I see k & N do an airfilter for the mk5.
Its £45 and they boast HP increase and better fuel economy.
Has anyone got any thoughts on this??

I'd be surprised if it did anything for power or economy, it would definately be noisier though... Just a bloody expensive air filter..

hi, as far as i know they sometimes boast but i would not think on you will notice much diffrence on a transit, the only good thing is i think they have a long life to them as you can clean them and use it again and again but not sure can anyone back me up on this.

Air flow isn't the limiting factor on a transit, there is still only so much air you can suck in without getting a turbo to help cram it in there.

Won't give any more power. If you notice an improvement, or better fuel economy when you change to a K&N in a transit, then it is probably because your old air filter was dirty.

K&N are supposed to be lifetime filters, but you still have to buy the cleaning fluid or whatever it is, and when transit air filters cost peanuts, i'm doubtful you would make a saving.

To me personally its more faffing about having to clean a filter, than simply buying a new one and binning the old.

As above, doubt you'd tell much difference over a new stock/cheapie filter, but you would over time as K+N's don't clog up like a paper one will, 'specially if you live somewhere dusty or damp.

Whether it 's worth the extra dosh or not is debatable, depends on how often you service it I guess.

With bikes I normally just knock the big bits out and put them back in unless they are badly discoloured, so I guess you could end up saving by not having to buy filters every time.

I'm not completely up on all my van stuff and most of my thoughts are on bike related bits so here's my thoughts

I've had a K&N filter on one of my bikes before (bare in mind K&N boasted more power and better economy for this one as well). As I was modding the bike at the time it had a few dyno runs and it actually made less power with the K&N than it did with the restrictive standard one!
I also had a K&N filter in my Focus ST170 but ditched that in favour of a Pipercross induction kit as I just don't rate the K&N stuff anymore.

I would personally just replace the filter with one from a motorfactors as they aren't that expensive
