New lock set and PATS

Postby MrCoffee » Thu Mar 25, 2010 1:33 pm

Hey guys, desperately need some help on this before I start ripping things apart. I have 2 x '95 transits and I'm hoping to swap all locks and barrels from the donor to my existing van so I can get everything working off one key. Changing all the locks is no problem, but I`m concerned with the PATS system. If I change the ignition barrel, how do I program in the new set of keys. I know how to code in new keys normally, but that assumes the ignition barrel isn`t changing.

I'm trying to avoid changing out the red blade in the keys, as I dont fancy the idea of it falling out when I'm on the road and being unable to start again!

Cheers!

hi there is two ways around this !either swap the pats module's over when you change the ignition barrel and key , so as the key and pat's are matched ! or heat the key blade with a blow torch and carefully pull it out with grip's and do the same again to the other ! then whist it's still warm push it back in to the other key fob ! and visa versa !

Thanks for the reply. I probably should have mentioned, the donor lock set has a red master key and I'm trying to avoid using the donor pats module as I suspect it may have a fault. Is there any way of programming the new set of keys into the existing pats module?

hi ! the way that i got around it was , change the blade of the key it's self so i kept the original pats module . and then got keys cut and cloned to the original pats !

Well, ended up swapping the PATS module over and all appears to be well. Cheers for the tips though :)
