What are the petrol trannys like.

I might be buying a r reg with all electrics, central locking ,heated screen and a tailgate woo hoo and its only got 47.000 miles.

Are they quick?, more expensive than a diesel to run? or the same seeing as petrol is cheaper.

whats your thoughts guys .

i also think its dohc 115 ps version is that good??? :)

OK mate as you havent had an answer yet ill tell you what i know!! :D

Ive never had a DOHC petrol transit but thats the engine im planning to put in my mk1 (or the 16V scorpio one- same engine) ive talked to people who run them and ive had good feedback mpg isnt as good as a Di but performance is better!! as you would expect!!
But mpg is loads better than earlier pinto transits - so im told!! :D

Ive run DOHC's in sierras and granadas for years and although they get a bad press i think there a great engine - just need to be looked after - ie timing chain replace it unless its allready been done!! other than that dont run them without water - they dont like it

they are not bad to run 30ish to the gallon but not blindingly quick, but smooth and quite to drive! you could get about 38mpg on a run at 60-70mph! :D

HIYA GVM , GO FOR THE PETROL MATE , FAR MORE RESPONSIVE TO DRIVE , NO MORE WAITING FOR THE HALF A MILE GAP TO PULL OUT ONTO A ROUNDABOUT , AS LONG AS ITS SERVICED REGULARLY THEY ARE VERY NIPPY AND ALOT SMOOTHER TO DRIVE , BUT MY VAN IS FOR FAMILY / BUSINESS , IF IT WAS FOR COURIERING OR A LABOURING WAGON I WOULD GO WITH DIESEL .

MINE DRINKS ABOUT 2O QUID A WEEK AS A DAILY RUNNER USING IT ABOUT THE TOWN , BUT ON A LONG RUN UP TO WEST YORKSHIRE USES ABOUT 3 1/4 OF A TANK CRUISING BETWEEN 80 - 90 MPH , WHICH I DONT THINK IS TO BAD FOR A 2.0L VAN .

GOOD LUCK IF YOU CHOOSE TO GET THE VAN , IF YOU NEED ANY MORE INFO GIVE ME A YELL :D

I HAD A LOOK AT THE WEBSITE FOR SUPERCHIPS AND SENT THEM AN EMAIL FOR A QUOTE ON MY VAN , THEY SAID THEY COULD SUPPLY A CHIP AND IT WOULD INDREASE PERFORMANCE BY 13BHP , BUT THEY DONT COME CHEAP , SUPPLIED AND FITTED IS IN ROUND FIGURES 300 QUID INC VAT !!!!

IF YOU LOOK ON EBAY THERE ARE A FEW PEOPLE SELLING THESE GADGETS THAT YOU CAN FIT YOUR SELF THAT INCREASES THE REVS WHICH WILL GIVE YOUR VEHICLE MORE GET UP AND GO , THEY WORK ON THE SAME PRINCIPLE AS THE SUPERCHIP , BUT WILL ONLY COST YOU ABOUT A TENNER , READING POSITVE FEEDBACK FROM THE BUYERS IT LOOKS GOOD TO ME AND I AM CONSIDERING PURCHASING ONE FOR MY VAN .

Ive spoke to people who have fitted superchips and those resistor mods on cars - not DOHC fords though and ive only ever heard bad reports like lower mpg or no noticeable increase in performance!! :(

might work but i'd make sure any mods done can be but back if your not happy with it!!! but like you say those for a tenner arnt exactly expensive and "worth a try"!! :D
