Whirring noise!

Postby darkbluevanman » Wed May 05, 2010 9:52 pm

Ok, as mentioned in another thread, did cambelt/tens (gen ford) new water pump, new power steering pump, new alternator all new belts...

Got a whirring noise now, more noticable inside the van? not so promenant with head under bonnet!... everything working as it should! wasn't there before :?

take the belts off one at a time to help isolate where the noise is coming from

Have a look and see if the alternator belt is running in a straight line .....

If the cam belt is too tight it will make a whirring noise.

I've been trying to think what it was, so in a unobvious choice I went for a fast (LOL) blast down the motorway... whirring isn't as bad now!... so somethings prolly worn away  ... and thinking about it I'm hoping it was the little plastic flap on the cambelt cover (the bit with the 2 nut self tappers!), I pulled it right down and thinking on, it may have been touching the crank pulley?

For ref, alt belt true, cambelt ten's later auto type, all done as per ins with 'pip' visable at bottom of cut out :)
