A picure is worth 1K of words & u nearly managed the whole dictionary.
Well, I just managed to take some pics. of mine afer levering the tyre
to a rakish angle, but they r now reduntant as u have the identical system & tool.
I am about to extrapulate if its allowed......................
Can I deduce that the pressure on the handle is suppsed to push the hinged & pertinantly sprung cover plate back past the nut & allow union?

Your welcome and you are right in what you say and i am thinking you may need to give yours a good soaking in WD40 before you have another go as mine was seised when i got my van, also when i got my van this handle piece was missing and i couldnt find one anywhere, so had to purchase it from fords cost 20 quid inc vat

We both have an off centre 'bolt' through the 'lozenge' shaped piece that fits on the spare wheel hub holes & it would also require this to be removed prior to actually fully freeing the spare.
Any idea what I can expect to overcome on the hidden side of this 'bolt'? One is a torx nut & the one I refer to, hopefully has some sort of easy release method.

I WD,d it & bashed away at it with a metal rod & hammer. No change!
Had to do a gig, risking all the gear if I got a flat!
I'm goin on Ebay to get some nitro.

I had a flat the other morning and I had to jack it up on the towbar to get the spare out !, then let it down & do a 'normal' wheel change, and by Christ that jack don't look like it will last more than another 'wheel change' or 2.
I would like to say it's flimsy, but it ain't that good.

get your self a small trolley jack a cheapo in a case does the job

i got one behind my seat along with 5ltrs of coolant/water 5ltrs of oil small tool kit 10ltrs of derv huge melco wheel brace and christ knoiws what other c**p its amazing what you can fit behind the seats

I stow mine in the SLD footwell along with a 5 litre plastic water bottle to stop it all sliding around. Ok so I have to move it when I empty the van but that is a minor worry. back of my seat is maps and coke bottles, shame the smiley has a different frame from the previous models as I can't store anywhere near the amount of stuff I used to and I had a small plastic box to hold all the small things and it don't fit no more

Anyone still struggling to get the spare wheel out I offer this tip:
I've enccountered this on our old works van, my van and mynext door neighboughs Galaxy.
If you lower the wheel without FULLY pressing the saftey lever/catch down it is possible to have the catch still engaged whilst the wheel lowering mechanism is wound out. In this situation it will seem like the wheel should be coming down but is stuck, and saftey catch (which is now jammed) cannot be pressed even with a big hammer! If this happens wind the spare back up ALL the way and then try again making sure the catch is now fully pressed and the wheel is coming down straight.
