2.5D H reg Transit/Camper Help - pump

Hiya

I looked at a van today. It had minor rot on the wheel arch, just on the very edge. The rest of the body was sound.
We drove it briefly and the thing veered to the left badly, tracking, a pang underneath?
Any ideas?
Any ideas on cost to fix?

The drive was lovely, gears were fine. Considering its age a beauty. However! The pump was dripping badly. In 3 places. It wasnt the bolts, or pipes, but couldnt actually identify where it was coming from. What do you think this could be? again and costs...

The chaps asking £500 but I reckon it could be reduced a bit, i need to know the dangers of the leaking pump and costs of scenarios...
Also could I get a ford etis on the numberplate?

It has a sink, cooker, table, 2 beds in the back. All fixed. How do I go about classing it as a motorhome... cheaper insurance with motorhome?

And the Tempature gauge does not work, inside it looks like the wirings missing, how much are these to replace?

To get a van registered as a camper (motorcaravan) it has to be a one. If you do a search on the DVLA website you sould be able to find them - you need a fixed bed, table etc. Cooker blah blah.
Usualy you need an inspection by VOSA.

Without taking it apart, you are taking a gamble on the cost of getting the faults sorted. The good news is that Transit bits are cheap and easy to get hold of.

Hi guys, thanks for checking for ETIS.

Righto, it is a gamble, but Is it worth a £450/500 gamble with the costs.. any idea on costs for a new pump for this engine?

It's a Lucas CAV pump, so you might just find it's seals gone hard.

Be much cheaper to have it refurbed/repaired than fit a new one.

I've had a read on the DVLA sites regarding insurance and camper, thats fairly easy/simple enough. Cheers.

The Lucas CAV Pump, if it needs a refurbish how much, estimated, do you reckon it could be done for?
And how much for a replacement pump?
I'm trying to get some figures in my head (google didnt help when I searched for parts) so I can figure if its worth the gamble or not.

Also any info on tracking or any bearings going and ideas on costs?

I'm worried I'll get this van and spend another £500 or more fixing it up.

£1000 for a decent camper sounds like a good deal!

Right, fair enough. I'm off abroad monday so I'm sending a mate to take it to a trusty mechanic (if possible) and the judgement of the mechanic will determine if I am joining the tranny club.
I wanna start fixing it up/blogging here

hi firstly your pump could be leaking from the throttle spindle on top of the pump easy fix rubber o rings 5p each iam on doing a mk 5 lwb in to a camper and have allready been away for a week ....great even though it iis still in its early form (storage a priority ) there was talk of electrics and gas need to be certified but i dont know for sure if this was brought in or not i am having it done any way for peace of mind but stck with it and remember NO STRAGE FEES ,,YOU CAN PARK OVER NIGHT ANYWHERE MOSTLY FOR FREE; YOU DONT NEED TO USE EXPENSIVE SITES (MY WEEK AWAY COST ME £4.50 IN PARKING )AND MOST IMPORTANT FREEDOM TO GO ANY WHERE ANY TIME......

Well I'm back from being abroad and It was a great trip. Sleeping in the Car all I wanted was a van! lol.

However, I returned to a sad bit of news, the Van being a little bit unreliable, and the mechanic saying nay.
So I'm back to having a search and thanks for all your help.

the pump your van has usualy leaks from the advance lever on the side of the pump engine side u have to remove the pump to do the repair it just a seal

500 for a converted camper is cheap imo, even if you end up spending the same again on repairs, it still makes it a cheap motor!
