LED positioned above windscreen centre.

Hi again. Its yellow & flashes upon exit & entry. If I put the lights on, there is a 'whistle' if drivers door open. Apparantly, it's not a Ford mod.
Anyone got any info please.

If you put the lights on and open the door there is a sound to remind you to turn them off. That's normal.
I've just got a hole above the windscreen in my van so I can't help you there!

Hmmm, I wonder why mine is missing? Perhaps the police removed it for some reason. Disabled PATS? :?

i doubt they disabled the pats as your running epic managemant arent you and they need the pats for the pump to work see if you have the plastic thingy wrapped round your ignition barrel might be that the led packed up and they didnt replace it but very unlikely tho as the police do seem to over maintain there vehicles :D

Hi. Are you saying that the led works in co-ordination with the PATS key & transponder?
Is it an aftermarket mod.-non Ford?
Why the visual indication?
cheers

It's original Ford, the flashes do mean something but can't remember what that is!

Thanks all. But I am non the wiser as to what it relates to, or it's function.
Ford of Edgeware road stated it was NOT a Ford fitting!
Oh well, I only hope it's not a 'wheels about to fall off' alarm.
It IS a great conversation topic though.

Show me a picture of it, i'll soon let you know if it's OEM or not

Steview

some front line vehicles were built without pats, whats the key like?
also the led lived in the dash on some builds.

flashing at 1Hz means the system is active, flashing at 4Hz means the system is suffering a fault or theft attempt.

After the 1 minute of flashing 4Hz the following flashes read out the fault code. and i'm keeping them seekrit :D

Hi. Thanks. No piccy just now. It looks a bit like a ping pong ball embedded centrally above the windscreen.
Red PATS key.
It only achieves 3-4 flashes. Probably 4khz.

Hi. Sorry. Forget the ping pong reference.
The led is embedded in a black rubber grommet about 1inch diameter.
So, pleaaaaaase.-what's it all about???

From the Ford TIS wrote:Whenever the ignition is switched on the LED will remain on for three seconds whilst the system carries out a self-test and then extinguish.

The LED will flash rapidly to indicate the PATS has immobilised the vehicle.

A fault on the PATS which enables the engine to start will be indicated by illuminating the LED continuously for one minute, and then flash the PATS fault code ten times. If the engine cannot be started (disabled by PATS) the LED will flash fast for one minute, followed by the PATS fault code ten times.

Up to 99 MY the LED indicator is situated in the front of the headlining and from 99 MY onwards it is situated in the centre of the crash padding facia alongside the heater controls.

I can provide a picture to prove this is what it is if you like.
