correct wheel/tyre sizes for my mk 5

Postby oldmadbiker » Wed Oct 28, 2009 8:01 pm

hi all.my mk 5 has 185/14 tyres fitted to 5 stud ford alloys.
ive been told the mk 5 should have 15 inch rims.is that so cos i was thinking of
fitting bigger to get better gearing.
also while im here any one want to swap my 4 alloys, one with a brand new tyre for a set
of steel 15 inch.
would 16 inch fit.
thanks in advance for any help.

The correct size wheel for a mk5 5 stud is 14"

 You could increase the rolling radius by fitting 195 section tyres on

right

91-00 transits have 14" wheels if they have 5 stud axles (models 80, 100, 120), these can be fitted with 195/14C or 185/14C depending on model/age. If it is fitted with 6 stud axles then it will have 15" wheels fitted with 225/70/15C (Models 150, 190). I think some tourneos (also 5 stud) were fitted with 205/14 tyres.

There are also 15" alloys avaliable to suit vans with 5 stud axles - but these are very rare.

Twin wheelers are slightly different, I believe that up to '94 they were fitted with 14" wheels and '94-00 15" wheels.

Hope that clears it up?
