Where is the heater resistor on a MK3 2ltr petrol.

All i have at the minuit is off or flat out . have checked the switch and it is working.

cannot find anything in the manual on it

i think its behind the o/s headlight

As luke said, its behind the offside head light. Its a metal cage with a ceramic cylinder thats wound with a thick wire and has 3 wires to it (i think). Because of where it is, it's prone to the spade connections corroding causing bad/no connection

And mine is now doing exactly the same, a week on holiday and now its stopped working

Long time since i brought one but i know they're not expensive

normaly if they are not to rusty you can put the heater on position 2 and give it a wiggle around and if you are lucky it will start working!

found it now. 2 connections and lots of melted plastic

melted plastic = bad connectionS
When you replace the resistor make sure that the plugs on the end of the wires is rust/corrosion free. The resistor may have nice clean spade connections but if you just plug it on with out cleaning the plug, your back to square one You may even have to crimp new connectors on the wiring.

They are still available, the Mk2 uses the same one.

Unless prices have shot up I paid about £8 for my last one...infact I never got around to fitting it, I don't have a clue where it is currently. The reason for not fitting it was simply that I would have had to drill out the rivets and then use either BIG self tappers (as the hole is despectively large) or re-rivet. Mine was loose but not really playing up and the replacement was a helpful Ford parts desk guy who suggested swapping it as the headlamps were pitifully dim...something to do with all the earths needing to be good was his reasoning. A free new old stock handbook was also provided as I had at the time never had my intermittant wipers working and the handbook showed that the relay was in the wrong slot...so after that help the question was asked about the lights.
