starting problem

Postby dannydc » Wed Jan 20, 2010 3:49 pm

my van has started 1st time every time untill today
mk3 transit 120 smw 1998 2.5 d
it has been stood for about a month. 2 weeks ago during the bad snow we had i tryed to start it it turned over but wouldnt start then the alarm went of i left it and tryed to get it started today the dash lights came on but it wouldnt turn over so i tried puting jump leads on as soon as i did the alarm went of (very quiet) and both indercaters started flashing and there was a clicking sound comeing from near the glove box were there was a wire with a red flashing light (i asume something to do with the alarm
and when i turned the key nothing there as soon as i take the leads off the alarm stops any advise would be cery wellcome thanks daniel

What van :?: Write little bit more details it will help   http://fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2676#p17117

Can you not disengage the alarm whilst on jump leads? Sounds to me that your battery is totally empty, but I'm no expert... :?

Welcome to the forum btw :D

prob quoting obvious here but find out if its a factory fit or DIY alarm , if DIY fit find out what type and you should be able to disconnect easy enough, i. am guessing its a after fit on mk 3. i had to do this some time back on one of my old vans due to water getting into the alarm system and also like yourself flat battery.just trace wires back and disconnect.

Why :?:
You can't say things like that without backing up as to why :?:

What is it expected to do that it doesn't :?:

hi andy are you goin to tell me you worked for them or something  ! i agree its certainly doing whats its ment to do but not when wanted. may be cr*p. was to harsh how about not very good , and if they were i am guessing they would still be available to buy.and i can assure you if this happend to me again which it has before with a cheaper aftermarket alarm i would be calling it cr*p, but to finish i do agree i should back up a quote like that

Not at all :!: But was curious as to why this particular alarm was so "cr*p" :!:

I have absolutely no knowledge of this alarm at all :!:

But I wouldn't be happy if someone was slagging my brand of whatever without good reason
