Hi,

How much should I expect to pay for a new propshaft for a 1991 (H) SWB 110 Petrol Transit?

I bought 1 from the breakers but according to the mechanic it doesn't match mine :cry:

It's desperate now and wondered what I should expect to cough up.

to be honest i don't really know.

I've just about had enough of mechanics but this is what i can gather so far.

1, The person i bought the van off said

a bit of play in the propshaft bearing.

2, The mechanic said it was to do with the 'back section' and if i drove it carefully should last another week.

???

All i know is that from 0-65mph it's the most juddery experience. Smooths out lovely though by 70???

Please give me some sound advice my head is spinning.

you could probly have your prop reconditioned cheeper than a new one! and if its done proply then it should be as good as new!!

They said that it could be from £55 to £110 depending on the problem.

However, they did say that they would turn it around in 3 hours for me.

Any roundabout price?

Don't sound a bad price. If you're looking at UJs and centre bearing.

used them a few times - just round the corner from where i work!! but Grenoside Garage in Sheffield is cheeper!!

you could just buy a 2nd hand prop - i'd have thought a standard swb prop will fit yours

and its not a difficult job to swap!!
£20 should get one easy - i have 2 spare but ive promised one for a mate and 1 is going on my mk1 when i eventually convert to mt75

uj or centre bearing, both easy to do, why do you need a new prop, you call him a mechanic is he??

thought it was 100 or 120

open the passenger door, look in the step, theres the tag, if i remember rightly top right hand corner, model, that number is the model number, probably a 100

centre bearing is but the UJ's are sealed and they aren't available (at least I couldn't get one a couple of months ago :wink:
