bosch pump query

Postby steveselvage » Thu May 06, 2010 9:00 pm

Ive swapped my epic pump for a bosch this afternoon but i am confused about which way round the pipes go at the fuel filter. One pipe connects to the front of the bosch and one to the back but i dont know which is the feed and which is the return.
Can anybody help?

have you not got the pipes that go with the bosch pump? They only fit one way round...

Just did mine yesterday too. If it's the same as mine the pipe from the front (fuel in) of the Bosch pump goes to the right hand connection on the filter as you look at it. Took a while to get the fuel through on mine, but starts first turn of the key now, well chuffed! :D

And what's it like compared to having an EPIC, except for the pedal feeling heavier :?:

Not on the road yet, waiting for new water pump in the post. Not expecting it to be quite as smooth, the Epic drove great most of the time sad to get rid of it really. Also Turbo to exhaust manifold has had a leak welded (unfortunately damaging both parts) by a previous owner which is blowing, so will be difficult to fully tell until I fix that :(

How's it going Steve? Did you get it started? Mine hasn't been out on the road yet, but seems to be running and starting well with the timing set in the middle, we'll see. Are you planning to advance the pump? I'm gonna take it for a drive n see how it goes. I would be interested what you're doing. I'm no mechanic just following advice on here :D I've used a 145 686 pump.

Just taken my turbo and manifold to be re-welded (I'm not responsible for doing it in the first place) at a specialist cast iron welder. Hopefully that'll hold until I get hold of a new Turbo and Manifold...... anyone??

Here's a pic of the previous owners efforts

Did mine today, along with a water pump.Played around a bit with the pump timing but it seemed best as it was with the timing pins.
There is a puff of smoke when accelerating but nothing too serious.
I was initially disappointed as it was quite flat but ive adjusted the torque screw a bit and it is fine now.
I put a ballbearing in the vac pipe to the egr but it didnt make much difference.
Since completing the job i found that i may have to adjust the fuel screw which is covered by the rear pump cover so i will leave mine for now.
Hope yours is sorted soon.

Nice one. Got it running, goes well but haven't adjusted mine yet, only just been for a spin after messing with the turbo all day :( First impression is good, but I reckon there's a bit more power to be had. It definitely sounds more like a Transit now! I'm going to have a mess with it tomorrow, I'll probably just break something else though

Just noticed your pics post. Could be very helpful. What is your favoured set up on the timing? We all know what you think about 100ps injectors!

If you are putting a bosch on you need 100PS injectors. Apparently 85PS injectors arn't compatable

Timing is trial and error, some people get best results with the pump timed with the peg in others need the timing advanced

Do you know what I need to bypass to get the aircon working with the conversion? I read somewhere there is a relay that needs bridging but don't know where. Cheers

i did manual pump on a 1996 tourneo with a/c and it still worked but i did put a solinoid on the rev lever to pick the revs up a bit and wired it to the fans power.( they should still run regardless) as you will need to look at a montego or maestro 2.0 diesel engine (pump) for good advice and you will get the idea. is yours fully gassed up as compressor will not kick in if not gassed.
