Difficulty selecting gear from stationary

Postby sportscott » Mon Sep 11, 2006 12:36 pm

I have difficulty getting my Van in gear when stationary, when I want to pull away from standing it's a bugger to get the thing in first but if I select third or any other gear above then back to first it goes in no problem :(

Sounds like the gearbox may be a little low on oil, and maybe the clutch needs adjusting slightly, make sure to get the right oil for the box if you ckeck it and it needs topping up... DexronII :D

Some people are like slinkies- Not really good for anything, but somehow they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs :D

since my clutch cable snapped and i fitted another (2nd hand) one - it's been slightly difficult to select gears - i know it was fine before so it must be the cable thats caused it.

its not that bad to bother me but i will fit a new cable one day and keep this one as an emergancy spare

If there were no such things as Transits, then I'd buy a Peugeot. Undisputable the XUD 9 diesel motor is the best in the world. Had one for years

My dad had a 305 van, great van, it only set fire cos my dad wired something up wrong. Looks like our place is having Merc Vito's so ill be bringing up gear selection problems regularly.
Probly just needs adjusting, your clutch.

great engine - it's the other bits they build round it that cause the problem :)

I've suspected it's the clutch that needs changing as it would'nt really pull a skin off a custard, my old non turbo mk3 can handle a lot heavier trailer whereas the 85hp TD seems to struggle, might be in the axle as it's the 4.11. It's a nice van to look at and treat like a car but ain't no workhorse that's for sure.
