Panel replacement work underway !

First photo shows plate welded to floor and undersealed.

Second photo shows plated inner-wing again undersealed.

New cross-member section welded in place. Viewed from the rear.

L shaped profile being used to replace wheel arch lip.

Profile ground so it will bend around the wheel arch.

Rear quarter panel nearly welded in place. Are there enough spot welds ? Shouldn't fall off !




Well there you go guys one side is nearly done. What a challenge !

One thing I have noticed, I am using a hobby mig welder. The disposable gas bottles don't seam to last very long The first bottle I used was CO2/Argon mix the second was just CO2, I didn't notice a lot of differance between the two. I was told that the Argon mix would weld 'cooler' and reduce 'blowing through' :

I use argon/co2 5% it is better than co2 alone and when you get the proper stuff you do see the difference, dont know if you noticed but i have a large bottle i get from an industrial welding supplier, works out the same price as three small bottles for one fill and a months rental and lasts longer than you could hope for

Quick word of advice to all forumites after spending one and a half hours in my local A & E hospital department:

I thought I would be clever and get away with it I should know a little better it has happened before

Thanks rover, no serious damage should all be good as new in a couple of days.
As I said I just feel a little stupid as I have had this happen before I wear glasses anyway and you think these alone will offer a little protection but clearly not.

i been at Luton & dunstable hospital with metal in me eyes more times than i can remember...BELIEVE WEAR EYE PROTECTION IF MESSING ABOUT WITH ANGLE GRINDERS & METAL !!!!
Ear plugs are handy too...
