Just a thought... :D

I thought there might be a mondeo owners forum ...but will they actually know the answer as the item is meant to fit in the vehicle they are fans of, afterall they are very unlikely to be fitting a single dial Transit unit to their st24 or whatever, unless you mean the part I want identification of?

Since it is an old style message board I have posted up the question...if it gets an answer we shall see... http://www.fordmondeoownersclub.co.uk/f ... p?mid=2885

Another update...since the diode is now being talked about. The posting of the question on the Mondeo owners club proved as I thought it would be.... a waste of time...still no answer so obviously no-one there knows or actually has any clue when it comes to swapping parts around. But in their defense they are more concerned with switching trim parts around and things breaking/repairing rather than what is in effect is customisation.

The diode 'might' be this part I asked about before...especially since it isn't present on my cluster (still for sale/swap peeps ;) ) Which tends to suggest that the diode on a Mondeo is elsewhere.
Here is the picture of 100ps's cluster with the 'diode'?? pointed at.

Image
Just a  This 'diode' that's being pointed at in 100ps's piccy looks like a stabilizer circuit used on the earlier alternator variants. Not required on the later ones with the more modern alternator :?: Is anyone near Uxbridge :?: give us a pm.

Sorry mate rev counters are on smileys  that's late 94 onwards.
I'm trying to crack this for you but it's difficult with the different versions of the same thing :x
Can you tell me if your mondie clocks have seat belt reminder or anything:?:

The set I had (now 100ps's) has the seatbelt warning lamp but no bulb or circuit connection. Ford's must simply use a generic cluster for either the Transit or Mondeo and then apply the plastic circuit depending on which model the cluster is being fitted into.

I've had a carefull look at the early and later 98 mondeo diesel clock circuit diagram for the rev counter part. It ought to work :!: Are you sure that your oil pressure warning light is working properly :?: Can you disconect it from the switch temporarily just to make sure :?: The reason I'm asking is to ellimenate the fact that the wrong bulb could be lighting up as mondeos have their bulbs in different places.(You'll have to ignore what the symbols are saying)
The reason I'm asking about the oil pressure light (incase you're wondering) is because the feed for the rev counter is on the same rail
Can you not get a simple volt meter to check that you have 12volts at the rev counter with ignition on :?:
Then with ignition off check that you're rev counter is properly earthed.
If it's not earthed properly, cut the printed circuit for the alleged earth for the rev counter and put your own in using a piece of wire.
The reason I'm telling you to do it this way is we don't want to upset anything that could be sharing this rail.
Best of luck and keep us posted

Image
but the oil presure light did NOT come on :?:

Well done on your :D MOT :D . Oil pressure light - I presume this is ok when it's connected :?: and the correct light/icon lights up :?:
Rev counter has now thrown me 'cause the way you wired it up should have worked WITHOUT reversing the + and - cables :?
Now I'm stuck
Possible faulty rev counter :?: Possibly blown it somehow :?:
I'm gonna look again for you. I'm now just as determined as you are to get this sorted

On the Mondeo, the rev counters take their pulse from the PCM (powertrain control module) not the alternator :!: This doesn't make much sense if others have done this conversion and had no trouble :?
I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on a mondeo rev counter and try it myself  There is something very fishy going on here :o

yeah mate think your right my rev counter works but the pulse it is getting is wrong. at tickover the rev counter read 7000rpm when it should read 700rpm so i do not see how this will work without a frequency changer maybe the rev counter fitted to a transit has different eletronics
my rev counter is a 98bp hicubes trinsit rev counter is a93bb do we know what the bp and bb mean?

British Petroleum :!:
I think the numbers are refering to when the component was manufactered; so 93 and 98 do make sense but don't have a scooby 'bout bp/bb :?:

if its any help my mates granny has gg on the speedo  have got a sierra speedo sat here so will look and see what that says :?
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

News:
Got myself a mondeo rev counter and today while fitting my replacement hands free (for my new camera phone) I pulled the dash and plugged in the mondeo rev counter.
YES! it works :D
Had smoke and fuse go on me when I tried the to plug the complete thing in
Guess you shouldn't plug in a cable driven binacle into an electronic type/version
Hey :!: What are fuses for :?:
So my question is does any body want a good working rev counter (clock only) to put into their binacle :?:
