Spoke to the blokes at the local Transit breakers and they said 'Don't bother mate, far too much hassle, the heater matrix doesn't fit, the pedals are in a different place and the whole bulkhead is the wrong shape, it'll never look right.'

Doesn't seem to agree with the above, sounds like bollocks??

The pedals arent a problem at all. You dont need to touch them. The heater matrix doesnt line up with the original bolt holes and also the water pipes hole is in the wrong place. I cut the bulkhead to where the new matrix looked like it would sit for the water pipes as its only just a bit further over from the old holes, it isnt much and and I also put new bolt holes in. It isnt a major issue if you are careful and take your time. Dont forget to fill the old hole in when your done though.

I reckon i'll try and get hold of a dash then, they've got hundreds of Mk5's up there, not so many Mk4's and almost no Mk3's.

Only thing the concerns me is making it look like a ringer, but I can't see anyone retro-fitting beam and kingpin to a smiley I guess :D

Another Q. Do Mk3 or Mk4 wings fit with a smiley front end? Because my wings have the holes for square indicators and the oval lenses have had the clips shaved down to fit, but the front end /bonnet is all smiley.

Sorry to piss on your fire here but after fitting all this mk5 stuff to a mk3 wouldn't it be easier just to buy a mk5? lot less hassle too.

Not if you want a Mk3 with a Mk5 dash.

Hello. I know that this topic is a few years old but, having recently bought a 1989 Transit Campervan (Original conversion). It has the later style dashboard / instruments fitted, similar to the Smiley style. I have seen one or two of these of this age and yet I have also seen later (1990ish) Transits with the earlier dashboard! My fuel gauge has jammed and I thought that a spare cluster might be useful. My question is thus: Assuming my dashboard is similar to the Smiley type albeit an early version (Perhaps camper conversions were given priority for the newer dashboards?), are all the instrument clusters of this style interchangeable? (Sorry for a long-winded question.) Many thanks, Ian
