1996 should be a Lucas alternator, which is 55A or 70A

Anyone know if the later 95a will fit in place of the Lucas 70a?

I upgraded my 70a to 95a, it needed a different connector terminal so that had to be sourced and changed, it was very hard to find the newer Mitsubishi style connector. I upgraded the alternator bracket as my mk3 had an older system that was very hard to tension. It works fine now but the limiting factor is the belt which has a tendency to slip if I'm pulling a lot of load. If i tension it too much it breaks the bolts, so a balancing act but it's been happy for a few years now.

For reference its called a junior timer socket, and is very commonly used and readily available :)

If I'd known it was called that it would have saved me so much time searching!

Has anyone found a solution? I'd like at least 120, but ideally 150 amps out of my currently 95A alternator. 1999 motorhome with 2.5DI.

Interesting... I have a 90 ambulance but only a single alternator (though two 12v batteries).
CamperVanBeethoven wrote:No idea how or where you get the appropriate bits and bobs (including longer belt), but apparently some ambulances had a 'dual alternator' arrangement. That's one possibility ...
