I took out the pump return also to see if the seal was any better.

I did just crank it over with these pipes off and the lift pump seems to be pumping well. I also checked its housing and it has not come loose

And as regards to the cold start solenoid there is not much i can do to repair this and i cant find any part numbers at all.

Looks like those quick couplings. Could be a worn o-ring inside.

I need a better photo.

My fuel lines to and from the fuel filter are bolted on, like brass plumbing couplings.

Did you carefully open it so nothing falls out to see how that cable is attached inside?

Hey peterr

I measured and there 4mm thick with almost flat sides, my o-ring set has nothing like that in it, i was thinking of stamping them out of a rubber sheet, but with how close the inner and outer diameter are i dont think my set would do it without splitting the rubber

Another option could be i guess trimming the broken bits of these and some thread sealant? I have the part number of one of the pipes i will see onling if i can get a image of the seal

Looks like this on the inside, yeah i have all the pieces the spring is really strong. Im hally to not have it, its just now i have no idea where to set the lever on the second picture.

I realise now this cable was failing for a while because twice i had to turn up my idle for no reason at all

Tricky trying to attach a wire or cable to that shaft. I imagine that the wire doesn’t come out the other side, factory pressed in. Do you have a threading die to thread the tip of the tube where the broken cable pokes out?

Or drill a small hole across the diameter of tube 5-8mm from the top. Put a wire through it to rig a loop to twist and extend the wire to where the broken cable is clamped.

broke down in spain, fuel fikter housing seals anyone?

Postby Viva_65 » Tue May 12, 2026 5:53 pm

I think with this cold start solenoid i can just use a steel wire to pull the arm forward, using the mountingbholes of the solenoid.

I guess i will get the enging running and when it idles good that should be the same position as i didnt touch the idle screw ok this breakdown

My concern more now is getting seal for these unions on the filter housing or going barb and rubber. Fingerscrossed this is where the air was coming in

In your photo I can’t really tell what sort of coupling it is. Is like mine in the photo using a nut to tighten it?Image

I wouldn’t use any type of sealant or anything that could dissolve or break down and get into the pump. Try cleaning away the torn bits then tightly wrapping black vinyl electrical tape behind the grommet up to the bottom of the grommet, without covering the grommet entirely experiment with the number one windings until the fastening bolt slides snuggly over sealing out the air. This may only be temporary as the fuel will dissolve the adhesive of the tape. Maybe if you can get it, plumbers teflon tape the thick version. Careful not to let bits get into the fuel line. Only wrap a kind of collar leaving the rubber part clean to make the sealed coupling.

Not a bad shout actually

Today i will try and get to a hydraulic speicialist store, either for barb fittings or if they know of any seal that can work instead

Or marine supply, depending where you are in Spain. You may consider removing the fuel filter head and taking it with you to a shop to see what fits that looks like this photo. Maybe you can push the grommet and nut back and warm up the plastic fuel tube carefully so as not to melt it. Then slide it over one of these adapters with a ring clamp. Put the adapter on fuel filter first. Get some teflon tape in case these threaded adapters leak.

Yes to the tape you can get different angle fittings, to crimp the pipe onto the fittings use o clips all you need to nip them up is a pair of pincers neater job then jubilee clips also if you want to put clear plastic pipe on it will push on warming up in boiling water

I’m working on the same tubes too today. I found a kink in the Bosch return fuel line to the filter. Also grubby looking grommet on the filter coupling.

Image

Gently heated the tube with a lighter a pulled the insert out carefully with pliers, so as not to damage it.

Sanded the back side of the grommet to even it out without touching the from that makes contact with the fuel filter. Finished with fine paper.

Like new.

Found a kink in fuel line. I gently heated and straighten it out. I have no idea where to get a replacement or how to bend these hard plastic tubes. Anyone?

Wonder now if this was causing the back pressure making the pump over pressurized causing the PRV to leak fuel:
