speed 3 on heater not working

how do you go about puting the new plug back on i thinking of snap lock connectors what do you reckon

Sorry I missed that bit before, crimps are what you want I would say the yellow ones on that size cable! I wouldn't use snap lock connectors on anything!

ok ye is a big cable so will have to use the yellow ones i am not a fan of the crimp connecters as i have had a couple come apart in the past but will give it a try the only reason i thought snap locks were they dont tend to come undone anyway will give it a try


so why do the plugs burn out???

The plug had melted becuase the resistor had burnt out!

have got a set of crimp terminals and the tool so it should be ok dont know why the others felll apart

i take it the plug dont burn out straight away when the resister goes as the blue hicube didnt have a burnt plug but the resister had only been gone about 2-3days

I think it depends in what way the resistor goes becuase sometimes it takes the plug out and sometimes doesn't.

I think they melt the plug after the resistor has gone cos its on full all the time and that causes a lot of heat build up anyway, run any heating appliance on full all the time and you get heat at the plug.

Crimps are ok if you have a good crimper, the ones with the red handle that you normally find in DIY kits are useless.

I get all my connecting blocks (yes the brass screw type) from Wilkos', like I say the 30amp ones are best for heater wiring.

my crimper has got red handles but it is a quality one it cost my dad about £50 and he has had it since the 80's anyway will try the crimp connecters 1st and see how it goes if not will try the connecting blocks

it usually works fine but when i done the marker lights 2 of the connections came apart and blew a load of fuses but it was the smaller red connecters i was using

Back at my old job we had to get those crimpers calibrated!
It always seemed a bit over the top to me but just be aware they are ajustable and you absolutely have to use the correct crimp for the job.

all fixed now 3 speeds on the heater i ended up using strip connecters to connect it back up as i havent got any yellow crimp connecters must have used them on something else

Better to use a strip connector than try and bodge the wrong size crimp on!
