well no life span as such when they do fail its normally because of poor servicing or a faullt with engine management or burning oil etc

Postby madmax » Tue Apr 26, 2005 3:13 pm

Hi i have just fitted twin 3" ( 75mm ) side pipes to my 97 VG LWB took out hte Cat but no sensor light problems, but here in OZ but got an EPA canary ( pollution unroad worthy notice ) for doing this so put a late model over sized Toyota Cat on and passed the EPA test, also got about 8 % increase on original power plus even better ecconmy, she now goes like a rocket & can smoke tthe rear tyres in 1st. 2nd & 3rd gears and went throught radar at 176 kph, and the standing 1/4 mile at 14.97 seconds at 124 kph. i am happy. :D

Re Mods

Postby madmax » Wed Apr 27, 2005 12:47 am

hi ya

its a 2.0 litre dohc 8v Long wheel base & had a friend do a little computer work eg. modify the injector timing and flow, also change the throtle body to one off a toyota V6 and put a snorkle and unifilter instead of the std cold air intake.

but the most gain was from the Cat convertor size increase.

Oh only one other mod: Champion Splitfire spark plugs!

And she gets lots off looks when i am the first away at nearly every set of traffic lights

Powerflow

Postby Robo-van » Sat May 21, 2005 2:48 am

I've just had a stainless powerflow system fitted on my swb transit with 2 side pipes on the off side. I've left the cat as it was. It cost me just under £250.
Totally hands free driving......!

Its helped a little but I'm in the process of getting it serviced and tuned on a rolling road over in Nottingham.
With it being a 2L automatic petrol, and having a wheelchair lift just inside the rear doors, plus a wheelchair, for some reason I loose power on any incline :x
No fun when on motorways, overtaking lorries when you suddenly drop for 70mph to 60 or less, just because of a hill.
I'll let you know how it goes after its been on the rolling road.
Totally hands free driving......!

Remind me, is that a 4 or 5 speed bortaf? I don't have any trouble with hills in a fully loaded LWB panel 2L 5 speed.

It'll drop down to 35mph before the auto-box will change down the gears. A friend said I should be able to kick it down by pushing the accelerator down but nothing happens.

Then when I travelled down to Bournemouth, on some of those hills, on the A roads, I was lucky to get 15/20mph. I had lorries right up my back end. :(

OUCH , SOUNDS LIKE A PAINFUL PROBLEM YOU HAVE THERE , I HAVE A 2.0L WITH A 5 SPEED MANUAL AND IT STONKS UP HILLS FULLY LOADED WITH PASSENGERS AND LUGGAGE , I UNDERSTAND THE WEIGHT YOU CARRY IS ALOT MORE , BUT YOU SHOULDNT BE LOSING THAT SORT OF SPEED AND YOUR AUTOBOX SHOULD BE DROPPING A GEAR TO COMPENSATE , MIGHT BE WORTH PUTTING THIS PROBLEM IN THE TECH PROBLEMS & QUESTIONS SECTION .
