Are you driving all the way except English channel or the rich mans way..ferry to Santander?

How about making sure your spare wheel comes down and you can get it off the bracket and that it has 50psi in it?

carry spare fan and power steering belts?

How about diff and gearbox oil levels?

If it has Bosch pump carry 18ltrs of veg oil for emergency fuel...less smelly than diesel...French filling stations mostly close at 8pm

diff oil and gearbox oil, can anybody give me a 5 mins run down on how to check/refill.
timimg belt/ power steering ill look into getting a couple ill be taking a basic tool kit with me.
i still need to find out if i have the bosch or lucas pump, ive heard there is only trouble if using a lucas and vege.

oh where would i find the max load weight i can carry ? ill have a lot of paper weight in it, and would like to keep it safe.

i'll get that no . for you in a sec, im trying to shift the spare wheel off its mount, but the darn wings of the nut are fecked, any tips on how to shift a wingless winged nut?

ok wing nut is sorted, hammer n screwdriver soon sorted it, the threads are still fine so i just need a replacement.

Did you put 50psi in your tyre.....The outside of the spare faces down so you can do this with the spare wheel up if you forgot.

If you have an MT75 gearbox with the grid like pattern on it, the fill hole is on the Nearside (passenger) just above halfway up the casing in line with the gearstick.

Can't recall the exact size as I use a drain plug set but the plug has a square hole and you might get away with a 6mm, 7mm or even an 8mm Allen key or a the drive on a 1/4" ratchet might do.

As for the diff fill hole...well mine is Nearside again and faces toward the front of the van this square hole is slightly bigger 9 or 10mm.

You check em both by undoing filler plugs while parked level and if any oil runs out just do them up again their fine. If not fill them with those squeezy long nozzled gear oil bottles till the oil starts to run out the holes

ATF for gearbox and EP90 for diff..If they are both bone dry you might need about 1 and a half litres in each maximum.

Should only take you 20 minutes or so even rolling about in the road.
But well worth doing for the miles you'll clock up.

if you look on the side of the fuel pump that faces the battery (offside) you should see the BOSCH stamped into the flat face of the side. if so then you can use Veg oil neat if neccessary although mine prefers a drop of Diesel with hers..... about 20% to be exact

My MT75 has an alloen key in the plugs. 6mm i think

so now that i know, the diff/gearbox check is on my list of to do's for tommorow.
as for vege i may just leave it till i get back, i'd kick myself if i had probs stuck in the middle of france. safer to try it out at home i reckon.
ye the spare is now blown up, it suits that i took it off completely, for the very first time actually, as it needs a new wing nut to hold it in place.
thats 2 lucky turns ive had before setting off, the wing nut and the friendly dude from vosa who does the spot checks, collared me for a test, theyre going van daft in glasgow at the moment, noticed a fractured front spring the deemed my van unroadworthy, after having the mot done just 7 days before!!
pissed me off a bit as im sure it was there at the time of my mot the surface of the break wasnt clean all corroded. but better it happened here than on the road in europe. also a borderline rust patch that was paid for to be welded but never got done.

how often do you need to do the gearbox/diff oil. they look pretty dry.
i could only get 5 litres of each and from another post they reckon 1.5 litres will do it from dry. i just hate to have the extra stuff lying around, is it worthwhile taking it with me on the trip?
in all itll be about 6000 miles trip.

never unless they leak are you filling them till it drains out of the level plug
