I did a front tow bar on my recovery truck using a bar off a chassis cab with few welded bits and angle irons - it can come in surprisingly handy believe me - that was an '89 chassis cab but same meat different gravy - just have a look round some breakers you'll soon find a bar that more or less spans the gap and just make the rest with iron

I don't even think you need it that complicated, just have it off to one side off one chassis rail.

Cam - if you refit the steady bar or put a thick pin though the hole in the turn table the whole lot will lock solid then you can reverse it like a trailer

what about make it out of 40mm box mounted on the towing eye bracket - so it can be removed easly

you have p.a.s. reversing with a trailer on should be childs play

you tried with a hi cube the overhang is a killer swb is a piece of p**s plus the small dolly swivels so it all ends up all over the place

thats why i fitted a rear view camera on mine. it was bad enough reversing a dolly behind a lwb mk3 but the extra length between the axels on the hicube seems to make it twice as awkward

mine was permanent but you're right it probably should have been removable - bit dangerous having a big lump of steel sticking out of the front

i got my camera off a jap import years ago, but they're quite common on ebay now from about £30 upwards, this one also mirrors the image like mine does, it makes it easier when manouvering a trailer etc.
