Problems of EPIC proportions!

I had traced the above faults to a loose/dirty connection in the EPIC loom. I waggled everything and the van has run fine for few months now. Untill 2 days ago! :x
However while I was waggling the wires again ( ) I noticed that the connection on the back of the pump was a little wobbly. On closer inspection I think it may be damaged. The connectoe is a round multipin affair with a sort of bayonet action lock ring the holds the connector to the pump.
On mine the lock ring seems to tighten fine but then, at the completely tightened position, it's actually loose.

Can anyone confirm whether there is any play in either the lock ring or the connector when it's attched to the pump?

I think that a section of the 'track' has broken away on the pump half of the connector. It's difficult to tell because it was dark at the edge of the A46 and I haven't got my camera with me.
I'll try to post a picture later.

This could be the source of all my problems! (van related at least! )
When I pushed it in hard the van ran much better until the connector fell out completely and the whole thing stopped.

Just checked for you Steve and there's absolutely NO play, at all, whatsoever :!:
So it looks like you've found the fault :D (that someone else put there  )

Yep on closer examination in better light it's definately broken.
I've solved it temporarily with a multiple cable tie arrangement! Looks bad though.

Anyone got a spare pump cover from a Lucas EPIC pump?
