Transit 2.5 Turbo Diesel diagnose plug

Postby martynx » Tue Jun 30, 2015 7:15 am

On the Ecu the extra connector under a plastic cover is called a J3 port , it's how Ford would program the Ecu at the factory and sometimes , mainly in the USA , a module would attach to it to tune it. It's not really a reprogramming port as such as prior to '2000 most chips in most ecu's were one time programmable, so tuning involved a chip change or an add. on module. Most tuning on this series of ECU is done on US models so it may be tricky to find a good solution , I'd personally seek out a cheap aftermarket ECU to play with.

Yes Thats the socket. So even on a uk ecu still not the one for use to re map or do ypu physically fit another eprom in the ecu when you do your magic?

Ah yes I believe petrol chips got a new eprom or eeprom ! Wonder if i got one, and piggyback onto orig chip, but Lifted pin 1 or whichever is power, and put via 2 way switch if i could have a standard and sport switch? Do you think it would work ?

And fpr anyone interested in this sort of stuff you can erase data on an eprom if you uncover the glass window on it and shine a uv light onto the chip for about half hour!

Usually has a sticker over the window in center on top side

I'd love to tune it for you Robbie but not sure where to start really although I do have the light type eprom eraser - ( didn't know yours had that type of chip  ) Anyhow ditching the factory ECU would allow you to map it yourself probably , they are so simplified compared to OEM stuff & more ideal as you are having issues getting your factory setup running right .. Limbak is merrily mapping away on his ST170 engined Lada Riva that has an aftermarket ECU......

Info from here looks quite useful - http://passionford.com/forum/general-car-related-discussion/475000-24v-boa-tuning.html

Heres what I saw -

You can fairly easily get 350bhp out of them and then with a rebuild for forged pistons retc 450/500.
To get this you do need to turbo the engine either single turbo, twin turbo supercharged. All are effective depending on what you want.

Alternatively if you want to stay na you can get around 230ish by changing injectors vauxhall v6 ones, changing cams to bob cams, i have changed my management to ensure fuelling is correct which transformed the car from the standard ecu. You can also change the plenum chamber to give better flow. Lots you can do depending how far you want to go.

Have a look on http://www.fordpower.org.uk/index.php there is lots and lots of information on there.

Megasquirt (cheap DIY) or Omex (expensive but plug and play) seems to be the way to go for most things...
