I already had the cable (grey/black) from the alternator to the large connector next to the battery, but it didn't have th white/black wire going in to the cabin, so i just ran a new wire from the alternator (grey/black) connection in to the cabin behind the dash and connected it staright to pin # 8 started her up and "hey presto" rev counter worked perfectly first time.

Not having read all 11 pages yet, do I need clocks from a petrol mundane (mine is a 99 twinc 8v) and will it still show the correct speed?

You will need perol ones then, but you will need to check if you need cable or electronic speedo.

Got mine working nicely apart from now the fuel gauge is reading wrong. Only the original fuel gauge works as it should. Ive tried 3 different mondeo fuel gauges and all of them give different readings! Ive just put £40 of diesel in and its still only reads 1/4 full and acts like a windscreen wiper when driving along! Any ideas anyone?

All Mondeos including diesel up to model revamp have cable speedo.Late 97-98 onwards new shape models are electronic I've found.
I'll scavenge the clocks & plugs out of any dead Mondeos I get and post a link.
Fitted clocks to my 98 from a 93 donor tonight, rev counter not working so looking forward to a little wiring...

the problem is this the rev counter is only multiplying by 100 not by a 1000
so on tickover it is reading 7000 instead of 700
but the needle is reving with the engine

any ideas please peeps

thank you tony

ps my dash is an electronic speedo
with the late type alternator with the plug on the side

I'll add my bit at this point as have'nt read all the posts further. A rev-counter works from a wire connected to the ignition circuit and a wire from the un-rectified alternator and grounded of course. A generic type rev counter is adjustable as to how many poles the alternater has. In this scenario where gauge is mis-reading is due to it receiving wrong signal from alternater. I fitted a rev counter recently in my boat and it was due to the high price of original equipment that got me looking into how they worked. But in fact should in theory be able to hook it up to my Di motor with only two wires and earthed then flick through the settings to find out how many poles a Transit alternator has :?

OK flicked through most of this being 11 pages...the only among other things its not clear what the gaol is...

Is it to fit a Mondeo complete dash in to a transit or can you remove the rev counter and it fit somehow in to a none rev counter transit dash?

BTW I have a 1998 S reg will that be cable driven speedo?

Electronic Mondy clocks will fit straight in but like others have said the fuel guage may read wrong, when i fitted Mondy clocks to my old van i was lucky and the fuel guage read correctly, some are ok some are not.
