Prepping for Euro trip

Make sure you pack a tow rope and stick a nice big UK sticker on the back in case you need a tow.

Don't need a UK sticker if you have a GB number plate

Just completed a 1 year trip in France, Spain and Portugal.

Preparation

Exhaust is in good shape
Brakes (blow out the drums whilst its off)
Top up all oils etc
Gearbox + axle fluid
Oil and filter change
Cambelt if it needs doing + waterpump and tensioner
Get the tracking done
Clean all electrical grounds in engine bay
Check your spare and lowering mechanism
Get a full set of keys cut and hidden somewhere on chassis

Don't forget to tart up the arches. Only British Transits rust!

Spares

Top up oil for engine, PAS, brakes.
Spare PAS and fan belt
Fuel filter
Shoes and pads
Spare wheel bearing (& drift bar) + split pins
Spare bottom ball joint
Spare tie rod end
Spare locks and ignition barrel
Length of hose to syphon fuel
Tyre repair kit (rubber bung thing)
Several tubes of tyrefix spray stuff
Fuses
Bulbs
Windscreen wiper
Spare ignition switch

Haynes manual
Trolley jack & wood
Decent socket set
Torque wrench (make sure you got downsizing pieces to fit sockets)
Torx set
Ring Spanners - 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18, 32
2x adjustble spanner (large and small)
Pliers
Long nose pliers
Magnet on a stick
Rubber mallet
Rounded hammer
Vice grips
Piece of hollow tube for leverage bar
WD40
High melting point grease
Touchup paint
Cable ties

2x Phillips screwdrivers (large + small)
2x flathead (as above)
Multi screwdriver

Tow rope (it is illegal to tow in Spain)
Good length of strong thin cable (useful for fixing handbrake + throttle cables)

Self tapping screws + nuts and bolts or common sizes


Stuff required by law
Bulb Set
GB Sticker if not on plate (a spare is useful)
Headlight deflectors (tape is illegal in Spain)
Reflective jacket for all people in vehicle
Warning triangle (2x if in spain)
You do NOT need a breath test kit, but take one anyway to appease cops
