i have just set the tappets as in the manual and it started first time. i will check the timing and may change the timing belt at the same time.

finally got around to cleaning the carb on the pinto. next to no dirt in it. cleaned out all the jets. started and ran fine but still no power on hills. have opend up mixture screw more but no different. does anyone have a picture of a webber single choke carb so i can see if i am adjusting the rite bit

The single webers have two screws, one is for idle speed the other for mixture adjust, depends on what model yours is as to where it is exactly, but generally down near the bottom of the carb...

You screw it out for richer and in for weaker, bare in mind that you will need to advance the timing slightly the richer you go.

is there a general ammount to start with so i know where it should roughly be set. also what is the best way of getting the timing correct. i have set the pulleys as the book said at the minuit

What I find best with an older pinto is to take a screwdriver and a 13mm spanner out on the road with you, just turn the mixture adjust screw out half a turn at a time and then advance the dizzy round by a few mm, drive it and see where you are at, if you are not happy then go a little further with each one.

Just bare in mind that when you are done you wont know wether you are within the M.O.T emmissions regs, but you can always take it to an M.O.T station and get them to put it on the emmissions tester while you set it up, you want to be as close to the 3.5% limit as you can to get the most out of it, mine was at 3.47% on the test.
