but you can get ones for other engines for around half that price
all you need to do is make sure you get the correct thread :)

mind you, is anyone else tempted to fit a thermostart in the exhaust near the back of the van?

I know mate, I only posted because it's the Ford item and will be the correct thread :) Also has the part number so can be looked up on Fords e-cat and any associated parts may be listed.

hi all, came across my old mk5 today (the one in these photos),the chap is over the moon with it after having a few ropey mk5s.i asked him whats it start like cold...he said if its real cold he presses the button for 10 secs and its like its been running allready when it fires :D

i told him when i sold it that the van would start in any weather.i just fitted a varta e44 and the old type 2.8kw starter before i sold it..so he can be confident even on the coldest day.still looks a good van.bargain.

i required the van everyday without fail so got prepared to keep it a while..hence the bits and bobs fitted.then a more ideal van came up so he got a bargain

Right the linked plug is the right one for mine (2.5di non bannana) Its in, all works BUT in the process of priming everything the engine is now warm enough to start on its own. So will let you know the final results tomorrow. Off to Silverlake scrappy now to get a glowplug relay and some switches to finish it off. Oh and a tyre.

they use a timer relay to heat the plug, the heater plug has a valve in it that opens when its heated

ford used a feed from the filter, thru a shut off solenoid to the plug, when the engine is cranked the lift pump then provides flow to the filter and the pressure from this pushes fuel to the thermostart 8)

All Done

Need to have a think about the glowplug light. Ford switches the +12v and LandRover switches the earth. Will probobly go and order a stand alone light but it all works a charm.

From my experiences with tractors that use thermostarts, there is two models made. One with a BSP thread and the other with a UNF thread. I also remember that if you remove a few threads off the end of the fuel connection then a female 3/8 brake pipe nut and a couple of inch of brake pipe will give you something that you can connect some fuel line to.
