brought a transit rev counter clock set

just wondering won a bid on a clock set with rev counter on ebay gen transit ones

now aparently these have over 200,000 miles on them and my van has only done 121,000 miles will my speedo go straight in or is there a way to alter the milage on the new clocks.

also both clocks are cable driven

You can swap the numbers barrel over as they are the same size , that what I did on mine .

Im interested in this as i have a set of mondao clocks to fit and want to keep the milage the same

i have not got delivery of mine yet but should be able to look at them both when i get them.

i have read that the mondeo ones you may have to do something to the printed circuit on the back

Hello, I'm new to the forum but have been reading for a while. I think I can help with this one as I've just done this to my 1999 LWB 190. First of take front clear facia of, press the 3 top tabs.


Now undo the three Torx screws holding the speedo head. now take the speedo out.


Gently prise off speedo needle with a blade (be careful) and undo the Torx screws on the back. The speedo dial should now separate.


Gently ease the tab holding the non geared side and lift the number barrel out like the picture swap over and rebuild. Disclamer:- clocking is bad m'kay only use to keep accurate clocks when changing clusters.
My turbo transit already has the full electric pack or whatever its called so I didn't need to run any wires to the alternator. But I did have to get 2 mondeo clusters and mix and match them. The first 1 I tried was mechanical and I needed a electronic 1.
But the rev counter did work, the second 1 I tried was electronic but when I plugged it in the speedo worked but the rev counter went up to 6000rpm at tick over. So I swapped the rev counter from the mechanical cluster with the one from the first and they both worked! Then I swapped the odometer barrel and I had to change some of the bulbs and the 2 lower black plastic lenses from the dial face and everything works a treat, rev counter, speedo, temp gauge, fuel.
Both the donor clusters came from MK1 diesel Mondeo's, 1 was a 98 plate I think. Hope this helps

I must admit....I'm tempted to get some mondeo clocks :p

thats if I can't get transit turbo clocks (I look for transit turbo diesels in the scrapyard, as the turbo and pipework would be coming home with me as well :p)

Thanks IgorVigor! I should mention that there is a slight difference in the number barrels sizes. So if you want to swap you will need to make sure you swap mechanical for mechanical, or electronic for electronic. I think I saw somewhere that someone had managed to wind them forward or backward but I've not worked how to do that.

Can you not just ease the number barrels apart from each other and rotate them to the mileage you want

I think I remember reading there are small tags that the ratchet drives/holds which you release to turn the number rings to the desired number.......

I've not done it though, so I'd need to have it sitting in front of me to work it out

Possibly, but I didn't want to brake it, they are quite fragile and it wouldn't move for me

if they are cable driven and you have a dril then you can set the mileage to whatever you want (as long as you have the end of the cable that fits the speedo and the time to mess around with it) all you do is put the cable in the drill an then in the back of the speedo an slowly start to drill (should work but i have never tried it)

That is absolute rubbish. Firstly you could only add mileage using this method and secondly, to generate enough revolutions to change the mileage to any significant degree would involve so much time that it's impractical or the clocks would have to spin so fast that they'd melt.

Think how long it would take to add say 10,000 miles if you spun the thing fast enough to be equivelant to 100mph (4.16 days)

If its anything like the car i tried to clock it leaves the numbers very slightly out of line...and yes its noticeable.

That should read..tried to clock to show correct mileage after swapping clocks.

i never said it was fast and i know it would add mileage you would have to go "round the clock" to get the mileage you wanted
