fuel pump power adjustment

Postby crazylegsvan » Fri Oct 12, 2012 9:21 pm

how many have tweaked the fuel pump on a mk5 2.5di? I have an ex BT 70ps lwb camper and its sluggish. well slow is more accurate. I dont want to fly but 70/75 is top wack. accelleration is measured in weeks and hills are like chucking out an anchor.
would turning up the fuel pump give me that much more and what would the fuel consumption be?

Everyone on here that could do.it has already done it!

You actually save fuel if driven conservatively, or enjoy the extra power!

Totally transforms the drive !

I've done both top and back screws, it's still never going to win a race but hills aren't an immediate stop now.
I've even raced a milk float and won :p

The extra smoke isn't really much of an issue, after seeing how low the mot emissions result was I'm tempted to crank mine further and see what happens.

Black smoke is really wasted fuel past a certain point......especially on a N/A

Personally though, when mine was a N/A, I removed the metering pin from the torque top (so the torque top was disabled)

it allowed maximum fuel when ever needed....
downside was a bit of smoke at low revs, but it did rev a bit quicker......

but the best option is to fit a turbo

Whatever the thread said was the maximum recommended for the back one and the max plus an extra 1/4 for luck on top.
Also blanked the egr off etc.

The 'back' screw is the 'max fuel' screw

it adjusts the overall maximum fuel.
the torque top screw only adjusts the midrange fuelling, but can't exceed the max fuel screw setting

the max fuel screw is usually behind the security plate on the pump.

I haven't at moment just done the top one . I will be doing a turbo conversion later this year once I got all the bits up together
but it's just waiting to see what pops up and at what price.

Does anyone have a link to a thread showing how to find and tune these two screws?

I can seem to locate them on my 2.5L Turbo Mk5 with a lucas EPIC pump.
