Sliding door rail

Postby Kedishen » Sat Dec 27, 2014 11:55 pm

How is the sliding door rail mounted to side of van?

I presume it has some sort of bolt through arrangement into the interior.

Mine has appeared to drop slightly towards the back and I can see signs or rust showing through... a pain in the ass if it has to be removed.. would lierally have to disassemble everything on that side of the van to get behind the ply :/

The back of the rail has studs which go through the body with nuts inside the van which I think are prone to snapping off through corrosion.

Rust around the holes is pretty common too.

exactly right. If there is any corrosion around the area the nuts will have corroded on to the rail (dis-similar metals) and be stuck solid.

And yes its 6 or 7 nuts on the inside skin of the van

I work at restoring vintage WW2 aircraft. We sometimes use a device called a rivnut which can be fitted from outside the skin without access to the back of the panel. This could be a solution to fixing the sliding door rail when access to the back of the panel is not an option. I guess it depends on whether the head would obstruct the sliding mechanism... Just a thought.. hope it helps
