Just driven the van myself since locking the butterfly open and it feels much better.
Before it made a strange rattling noise on the over run and at high revs with low throttle opening. This has practically gone.
And it has more torque at low revs. I have a mile long dirt track to my home which was arkward before as first gear was too low and second too high. Now it goes up it in second happily on almost tick over.
It still smokes when i put my foot down though. I will try retarding the fuel pump timing when i get chance.

Hi all, I have recently purchased an mk5 turbo Di 2.5l transit.

I am concerned wi the fuel economy and power. I would like to try this ger blanking, but I am not sure of a coule of things!
1. Is it ok to do this with a turbo model?
2. Are there other things would I need to do to ensure I do not impact the engine reliability negatively?

Any hints or help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Graham.

This thread is regarding disabling the EGR valve on a Mk5 non turbo engine. The method doesn't apply to the turbo Di engine, and definitely not the later Mk6 & Mk7 engines (or anything after that!)

Sorry Altransit:

Then the MK5 Turbo Diesel ( Lucas pump ) engines should not put the blanking plate on the EGR , that is , deactivate it ?
Because ?

Thank you
