I must be a bit of a snob as I've only ever used new metal or usually transit doors for my repair plates, I used to have a glut of doors

Installed an electric fan to the radiator using the revotec relay kit to a switch in the dashboard. Pretty chuffed with myself tbh having never done car electronics before. Made a mess of the fuse cover putting a hole in it so I could fit in the fuse adapter though :/

Have you ever damaged the outer threads on the rear hub (Mk3, type 34 axle) when removing the hub nut due to the lock indentation on the nut lip?
Well, I did despite all attempts to avoid it.
The solution was to recover the hub using an appropriate die: 1-3/4' x 16 UNS left threads (left side hub). Not easy to find the right die. And not cheap: £ 80 for the die (in contrast to £ 40 for right-hand threads), £ 10 for postage, £ 35 in customs and handling, total £ 125.
But the threads turned out like new.

Made an alternator activation switch.
Mounted a new alternator some 5 yrs. ago. Now the alternator warning light used to stay on after engine start for some weeks. Could always get the alternator going by bridging the poles, but that was rather awkward (getting out, opening bonnet, etc.). So I installed a switch (with a resistor) in the cabin that bridges the poles. Very comfy :)

Made a tool to block the water pump while unscrewing the fan clutch unit from the water pump pulley hub.
I first tried to block the pulley using a fan belt. But after a million attempts and two snapped fan belts, I gave up the belt idea and welded instead a blocking tool from some 5-mm iron bars.
Worked like a charm.
