What did you do to your mk 3/4/5 today.

Removed front and rear bumpers to have a look underneath.

Bolts fun to remove especially torx ones at front, eventually all out and now replaced with normal ones.

No problems underneath, just a wash and wipe needed thankfully.

Some spray on bumper black and all good.

Well, rose from my pit, looked at the weather and decided the cambelt and pump can wait 'till the sun shines, which it did just before teatime.
Found my fan spanner and lo and behold, loosened the fan ready for tomorrow.

Talking of cam belts, I had a replacement gates timing belt kit fitted today as wasn't sure when done last.

Cheated though and got local garage to do it - labour charge, 2 hours - happy with that.

Good luck with your changeover van fox.

Looks very shiny!

Filled a gap a couple of inches long by half inch wide on the inside of my near side front wheel arch with roof sealant!
Bit of a bodge I know, but least it seems to stop water getting in and rusting it from inside out!

Pulled up the floor mat & wheel arch cover in the passenger footwell, shone a torch around and pondered where the water was coming in from!

- Unscrewed old, broken, spare wheel hanger. I was amazed when the bolts turned and came off, unseized and unrusted! Only took about 20 minutes to take off and that was because I was taking my time (turn out, turn back in, repeat, a bit at a time...) expecting them to seize on a rusted part of the bolt... Awaiting Mk4 hanger in post now (cheaper than a Mk 5 one). And once fitted I will 'exercise' the hanger every few weeks to make sure it works!
- Refitted the rooftop aerial I fitted months ago. You can probably just about see it in the avatar pic? Well ... I drove under a tree and camped; then the next day reversed out and broke off the aerial :(. Fixing it involved getting one of those 4 section ladders, you know the ones that fold multiple ways, and with 3 sections straight and one bent out at about 110 degrees, it was just perfect height to get to the roof. I tied it to other side of van for safety. I didn't want to cop it like Rod Hull ... :(
- Brushed off some rust from the back bottom while I was down there. Urgh, messy. I need to figure out what I should do to treat the rust ... and then re-underseal it.
- Tidied the van up a bit. It's still a complete state and needs full tidy and clean after Glasto...
