Mk3 Ex BBC Mobile Recording Van 1989 LWB Help Please!

Postby TheGreens » Tue Nov 08, 2016 9:32 pm

Hi,
Not sure I've posted this in the right section so please feel free to move if incorrect. We have an ex East Midlands BBC recording MK3 transit van with petrol 2ltr pinto engine and 42,000 miles - full height coach built doors to the side and a partial camper conversion with full carpet conversion. We've had her for 2 years and she's got a full MOT. We can't find anything like it anywhere else so have no idea how to value it as we have to sell as twins are on the way! Any advice on where to sell and how to price it would be gratefully received! We've loved having her and sad to see her go and feel she 'may' have some value to enthusiasts or for continued conversion. Thank you in advance!

Pics don't show the interior small basic camper style fit out which has a bed, sink and some storage. All carpeted inside and side window and brill doors to side. Considered putting it on camper self build Facebook groups but unsure where to price it as I'm sure these mk 3's are getting rarer. Genuine miles, new exhaust and full 12 months mot. Cheers!!

I like that apart from the side doors, not really sure on a value, as a high top van without the side door set up its got to be at least a £1000, with I'm not sure.

Well a G reg camper would be £4995 all day long.
If it's not a proper camper but has some basics then come down a little from that.
It looks tidy enough and if it runs well then you've gotta look at around the £4-£5k mark.
As a camper it would sell for more money in the spring.

Those riveted panels on the back look a bit iffy.

Thanks for your help! We were thinking around 2 -3 all slightly iffy bits considered. Just was not sure if they were getting more scarce!
Many thanks!

For those who still have a interest in these out BBC vans i have attached a pic of one in full colors, sadly this one is no longer. I have also added some pics of our Ex BBC Van converted as a camper.

I'd be interested in seeing photos/info of how they were kitted out by the BBC (I work in the AV/broadcast world).

I remember being shown round one of their last remaining class 2 OB trucks of a similar age in the early 2000s that they were still using.

It had a lovely handmade audio/video patchbay built into the tail lift that they hadn't maintained and had gone rusty so they just bypassed it with some cable looms. Tragic.

Hi! Update is that it is still on the road and going strong. Still registered as a panel van. Though i do have bed , log burner and seating in the back i dont go for fitted conversions , its panelled and insulated from bbc days, ..i prefer the simpler option of having a portable stove and a water bucket , plus everything can be removed from the van in 10 mins if i need it for anything.

Look at the above as there is a article on the vans from when they were first delivered.
