The battery cables being "solid" means nothing. Loosen both ends of both cables and take them off. Then scrub the terminals and cable lugs clean with a bit of abrasive or wire wool. Pop them back on and if it still doesn't kick the starter into life think about solenoid connections, etc. I replaced ALL my cables and starter wires and it starts better now than it ever did before. Just barely visible corrosion everywhere. It all adds up.

When the starter is turned on, the starter does not turn on and the lamps on the instrument panel go out?
After a while, does the starter turn on?
Bad wire contact with battery or bad wires.

If the starter does not turn on when the key is turned to the "Start" position, the solenoid does not click, the possible cause of the fault is a critical wear of the starter brushes.
It is necessary to remove the starter and replace the brush panel.
It's simple.

if the solenoid doesnt click theres no electricity going to the brushes. so not worn brushes.

hotwire the starter ... conect a wire to thesmall signal terminal on the starter solenoid, dab it onto the battery pos, starter should work . youve bypassed the ignition switch and wiring. so the fault is in there somewhere.

if the starter doesnt attempt to work its , its either faulty solenoid or the big battery leads. if solenoid clicks but starter dont turn its either corrosion on the big contacts in the solenoid or the starter brushes.

tried to solve inginition not working by bypassing wire on ignition before security..did not work for me...so step1; found solenoid wire going to starter..tee off that with conector..step2.connect tee off wire one side NO relay contacts...mine is 30A relay..step 2 other end of this NO relay goes to 12v on battery. step3. to energise solenoid relay.one end negative to battery. step4.other end solenoid goes to push button switch and is fed by a fused 12V....

to start...light up ignition cluster with key turn...and then push button..works like a dream
