Brake Lights on 1990 Mk3 Not Working

Postby themountain » Tue Aug 28, 2018 10:40 pm

Hello all,

Just joined and sure I will be here a lot in the coming years!! Have bought a 90 Transit with a coachwork body (former ambulance) that I will be gradually turning into a camper.

Issue I have at the moment is I have no rear brake lights. Bulbs are fine as are the fuse but nothing is happening. All other lights work fine...

I know some later models have a switch but haven't seen one of mine? Thanks

Look on the brake pedal mounting the brake light switch is sometimes it can pop out of its mounting bush or switch is done for to remove the switch you twist it quarter of a turn this is also how you adjust it

Thanks. I have managed to bypass the switch but still no joy. Interestingly when I remove the rear clusters and check all the bulbs, the one marked 'stop' comes on when the fog lights are on. So I think there may be a wiring issue somewhere.

No tow bar fitted but it previously had a wheelchair lift on the back. Tonight whilst testing it blew a cluster but only on the nearside. No fuse issues and offside still works... Getting very confused now!

Just to close this off and if anyone has a similar problem, it was a rogue connection on an un-used spot in the cluster. There was a bulb in there which I think was left as a spare but every time a bulb was in there it was shorting the circuit - took it out and all worked fine. Thanks
