Rear hub nut

Postby mrfixit » Sat Sep 01, 2018 4:01 pm

Want to replace the brake shoes on my 1997 twin rear wheel tranny, the manual says the hub is held by a 21/4" nut, when I stated the size to my local tool shop he said is it for a transit I stock them, it's 56mm but it's not large enough, any body else had this please?

Hi you don’t need to remove hub to do rear shoes not long done mine. I ended up getting new drums as they were really worn I think from memory the twin wheel hub nut is 65mm?

You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

If you can have the van off the road while you do it remove half shaft bend the lock tabs back and use blunt chisel to remove the nut and take it to tool shop to get you the correct socket when I did mine years ago I made my own by bending inch flat bar around the nut and then welding it a old socket
