Ford Diamond White .......not so white

Postby weseeyou » Fri Sep 14, 2018 11:20 pm

has anyone ever got to the bottom of why paint manufacturers produce a Diamond White spray can paint that is a distinct cream colour ?
All the sellers I have found all quote the same paint codes and claim their paint is a perfect match to Fords ZA Diamond White but none of the 8x cans from different sellers have been anything but a horrible ivory cream colour .?? My Mk5 looks like a patchwork quilt now

I am going to try Halfords Diamond White next .
Surely I am not the only Mk3 Mk4 or Mk5 owner that has come across this problem before

Diamond white is an off white/ creamy white, your vans probably been painted in frozen white by someone if it's a more pure white

Here's a thought! Have you seen the advert where a woman takes a green toaster to Homebase or some such store, they scan it and produce the same coloured paint? If they do a spray can may be worth a try? May be a prob scanning a transit in the store.....

There are many shades of Diamond white, I had at least 3 of them on the drivers side of my Mk4, from several body repairs
1994 Mk4 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (R.I.P.)
1997 Mk5 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (Gone, but not forgotten!)
2004 Mk6 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.0 TDDi - Vantunered (Also gone)
2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered

Apparently halfrauds can match paint to the vehicle, I wouldn't trust them though

A good spray painter should have a device that you put on the panel and it scans the colour and tells you how to mix the colour up. Matching colours exact is a hard job as there's too many variables

so are you saying that someone in the past removed the engine and gearbox and stripped out all pipes, leads, cables, and everything from the engine bay and then resprayed that in Frozen white as well as the bodywork ?? :D

Actually that is a good idea although extremely expensive. I think the last time I had halfords mix a can for me it was about £15.00 a can ! I've already used 6x cans on the 2x door repairs and 1x sill
I could remove a door and carry that into the store lol

Dont be fookin mad fella, you asked question and I'm simply pointing out the difference in colours and the way vans are fannied up to be resold it maybe had a coat of whatever white they had in stock and which nowadays is usually frozen white to freshen it up for sale....
Or
Maybe its a ringer
Even a plain colour like diamond white can still have various shades
Like ned says you can get paint mixed not just at halfords , most car paint suppliers will come out with paint cards and try match your colour and put in aerosol but you'll neex to Tcut or compound a section for to get a decent match
