starting problems, smiley 2.5Td 100 1995

Postby chth1812 » Thu Sep 27, 2018 7:56 pm

Hello everybody, seeking help once more. I was out of the country for couple of months and had the batteries (there are two) disconnected, as I usually do due to my frequent long term travelling. Upon return I reconnected them but in a very strange way, without even putting the key in the main switch, the oil lamp and the engine lamp came up dimmed. Turning the key in the switch nothing reacts. The batteries are fully charged. Couple of times opening and closing the door caused a buzz from the relays box but it was not the lights-on buzzer making it. Some other relay was buzzing. Any idea how to bring the engine back to life??? Thanks in advance

Batteries may have collapsed ( I know its unusual for this to happen to both at the same time) during your absence. Check batteries with a voltmeter or just put on charge for 24 hours.

No, for sure this is not the case as the batteries were on another van, which was and is running fine. They are fully alive.

Thanks for the tip but how can I check it and, if this is the case, what could I do to fix it? Any idea?

Dash lights coming on by themselves?
Nothing happening when you turn the key with fully charged battery's.
This is an electrical fault, id guess an earth issue or live short to ground somewhere.
Check all battery connections and earth points first.
Then check all fuses and relays.
