The Haynes manual is a bit unclear regarding the removal of the gear lever from five-speed gearboxes. It states: "... remove the gear lever knob, unscrew the lever and then remove it from underneath the vehicle".
Do I unscrew the three bolts marked on the photo below, then lift the lever and its attachment up, back and then down through the oval hole in the floor?
Will it not be possible to lift it upwards through the floor?
Why remove the knob? There seems to be plenty of room to bring it down through the floor?
