Removing the gear lever from a five-speed gearbox

Postby Kjeles » Fri Sep 28, 2018 10:07 pm

The Haynes manual is a bit unclear regarding the removal of the gear lever from five-speed gearboxes. It states: "... remove the gear lever knob, unscrew the lever and then remove it from underneath the vehicle".

Do I unscrew the three bolts marked on the photo below, then lift the lever and its attachment up, back and then down through the oval hole in the floor?

Will it not be possible to lift it upwards through the floor?

Why remove the knob? There seems to be plenty of room to bring it down through the floor?

Probably in the Haynes manual they are probably not removing plate and gator in the cab floor and sliding the lever thro the rubber gator I’d leave the knob on and remove the lever with the gator on

Thanks for ideas.

Once I unscrewed the three bolts, it became clear that the lever had to come down. The lever is attached to the cup and cannot be lifted up.
