How to disconnect the clutch cabel, mk3 petrol?

Postby Kjeles » Sun Oct 07, 2018 2:59 pm

The Haynes manual explaines that the clutch cable can be removed by first "unhook[ing] the inner cable from the toothed segment of the automatic adjustment mechanism on the clutch pedal" with reference to a photo. Sounds and looks simple enough. However, using a pair of pliers, I am not able to lift the end of the cable to free it from the hook.

Any trick to this?

self adjuster.
lift the pedal to disengage the ratchet mechanism from memory.

it allows the toothed segment to be moved back.

Thanks. It turned out that the pawl was missing and the toothed segment was held in place by a bolt that was drilled right through the plastic body of the segment. A home repair, apparently.
