Gearbox shroud?

Postby Pauldeacs » Sun Oct 21, 2018 7:30 pm

Hi all, just wondering what is the purpose of the two part shroud that goes around the gearbox bell housing area on a mk5? I've never seen this arrangement on any other vehicle. Is it for noise reduction or something?

Yes just to keep the noise down don’t know if it makes much difference but worth keeping on if it’s still fitted.

If i remember rightly the bell houseing has bigger holes in the casting then mk3@4 so as well as keeping the noise down it also keeps the dirt out if you’re going off road or on building sites you really need it on
