mk3 transit lucas pump change problem

Postby organictransit » Mon Nov 12, 2018 9:47 am

was hoping someone on here can save me having to send my old dog ( the van not the misses) to the grave yard! my 2.4 di transit has never missed a beat in the past 4 years iv owned her and i have put it through the test many of times intill last week when i had a diesel leak from the pump, so i replaced the Lucas CAV DPS advance piston gasket and seal on the advance pump plus a few other washers for the injectors...iv then had the cambelf changes and timed correctly to the 3 timing pins... my problem now is i have stopped the diesel leak but now accoured another problem of the van running like crap wont rev high and if i put my foot down the old girl kicks out a lot of black smoke, i have double checked the timing and it is correct, iv tried adjusting the diesl flow screw ( the one with the blue cover on) and if i turn it 3 turns it still makes no diffrent whats so ever? i really dont want to and really afford to replace my van this side of christmas and its due an mot friday so just need get this sorted asap any help would be appreciated

You have 2,5DI engine, 2,4i it was York - previous engine (in Mk2).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If it is 2,5DI with CAV Lucas - I have doubts did you do correct timing. In link viewtopic.php?f=31&t=152968 you can see old French manual (I think you know French  ) - on page 15 is shown correct way how fixed static injection timing.
In Bosch VE and in EPIC Lucas, locking pin for pomp is at 12 o'clock, but in this old French instruction pin locking pomp for CAV Lucas is at 7 o'clock.
Question is - is it correct this specification, and did you know it, and how you should do it?

Have you got the right tight fitting drill bits and before you set the adjustment did you loosen the four bolts on the pump drive gear the ones in the picture and then tighten them up when belt tension set

I took the old belt off compley befofe relisizing I would have to mark the timing up first but live and u learn, I got a professional mobile cambelt company round to install the new cambelt and time of up etc so I’m 99 percent sure that the timing is correct? I have checked it myself which I can see me doing in the pics.,.. am I correct in thinking there is only one slot in the flywheel where a socket will slide into when timing up, iv got a feeling iv done something wrong to the Lucas cav pump when I serviced it! Iv tried slightly adjusting the fuel pump timing by undoing the 4 13 mill bolts and moving cog and it makes no difference what’s so ever. I am in Worthing West Sussex by the way of anybody local and want to have a look ( misses makes a killer cup of tea) thanks again

Probably!

looks like the rockers/followers are ok? the only time I didn't see at least one broken rocker/follower was when the shaft had snapped!

Take them out, hammer them straight, pop them back in, set the valve clearances (not using the 9 rule) and you should be sorted :D

Yup, big hammer time. Do them one at a time and put them back in the same places.
Big question is....how did a "professional cam belt company" get it so wrong, assuming it didn't run properly when they finished...or...have you disturbed their work?
You use a pin to time the flywheel, not a socket, the pin goes all the way thru' if it's in the right place. Post a pic using a socket.....
